US Marines and Afghan Security Forces launched Operation "Moshtarak," the Dari word for together, in February 2010 in the city of Marjah, Afghanistan. The operation--the largest since the invasion of Afghanistan in 2001, aimed to expel Taliban insurgents and establish central Afghan government control and is the center piece of General Stanley McCrystal's counter insurgency strategy in Southern Afghanistan.
