Jordan's Christian community is currently in decline. In the early 20th century, they comprised nearly 30% of the newly independent state. Today, that number has fallen to 6%, as low birth rates, and immigration to the West. While Jordanian Christians enjoy a favorable economic position in the country, with good ties to the Hashemite Monarchy, many leaders in the Christian community worry that their numbers will continue to shrink.
